Parents

Welcome to Troop 309!

We are so happy you have chosen us as the home for your Scout! You can look forward to many different growth experiences and exciting learning opportunities in the coming years. This experience is different from Cub Scouts in the fact that your child will be taking more responsibility for their Scouting career and you will have to take less. This is an opportunity to let them make mistakes and learn so that they can grow and change into confident, responsible young adults. Things will look differently to you when your child is an Eagle Scout and you are looking back on the journey. But for now-it’s just beginning. We encourage you to come to meetings and talk with our Scoutmaster, ASM’s, and other parents who are on this journey with you.

Volunteers

The success of any Troop and of any Scout is directly related to parental support and involvement.  Boy Scout Troops consist of 100% adult volunteers.  Everyone from the Committee Chair through the Scoutmaster is a parent and volunteers their time to help our sons get the most out of Scouting.

Over 100 Scouts have earned the rank of Eagle in our Troop since 1974.  Each year our Troop has at least 4-5 Scouts earn the rank of Eagle.  If you take a look at our Eagle Scout plaque in Valker Hall the overwhelming majority of our Eagle Scouts had parents involved as adult volunteers.

It’s rare to see a boy join Scouts, stay active in Scouts, and earn the rank of Eagle without parental support and involvement.

Being a volunteer in Troop 309 is fun and rewarding.  Everyone pitches in to help in whatever area they have experience or can lend a hand.  You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how helpful and friendly our adult volunteers are.

We’re always looking for Assistant Scoutmasters, Committee Members, and Parents that can help out.  No amount of help and support is too small.

Adults involved in the Troop will need to be certified in Scouting’s Youth Protection Training and it is something we take seriously at Troop 309. We would love for you to join us on a campout but this needs to be completed first.   If you are going to be attending campouts, you will also need to take a one-time training course called Virtus which is through our Charter Organization, St. Francis de Sales Parish. We always want to keep our Scouts safe at all times.

Please let us know if you’re interested in volunteering by contacting our Committee Chair.
