Adult Registration Required for Overnight Troop 309 Attendance

Youth protection is a key element of managing the scouting program. Recently, there were updates to the BSA Requirements related to adults attending overnight programs with troops. This has the following impact on our troop’s events: any adult (parent or otherwise) who wishes to stay overnight with Troop 309 at a campout or other overnight outing must be a registered adult leader.

Current Troop registered leaders are listed on our website. If you are not listed there and would like to stay overnight with Troop 309 at a future campout, you will need to do the following:

As part of registering as a leader, we will need to register you in a position for the Troop. Following are the options:

  • Assistant Scoutmaster (ASM): ASMs are the adult leaders that work directly with youth to guide activities. An ASM may be assigned to oversee and guide a Patrol (each Patrol needs at least one). Additionally, ASMs attend Troop meetings to ensure sufficient leadership, attend monthly ASM planning meetings, and share responsibilities for planning campouts and other Troop activities. Online position training is available and should be completed.

  • Committee Member: The troop committee supports the troop from an administrative standpoint. The committee meets monthly. Additionally, committee members take on roles such as: treasurer, advancement chair, fundraising chair, webmaster, new parent coordinator, recruiting coordinator, and more. Online position training is available and should be completed.

  • Unit Scouter Reserve: This position indicates the adult is registered and has completed background checks, but does not have volunteer responsibilities in the Troop.

The fee for registering as an adult leader is $60 annually. Troop 309 will pay the registration fee for ASMs & committee members who are actively involved in volunteering with the troop. Those who register as Unit Scouter Reserve will be responsible for the fee.

If you would like to register, please begin by filling out the adult application and completing YPT (or locating your certificate if you are currently trained), and sending those to the Committee Chair. If you any questions about the process or to discuss adult positions in more detail, please contact the Committee Chair.
